What is the difference between an Upstand and a kickstand?

Unlike conventional kickstands that are heavy, ugly, permanent, and unusable by modern design, the Upstand™ is fully detachable, lightweight, and usable on most bicycles.

How much does it weigh?

The tab on you bike weighs 15 grams and the stand itself weighs approximately 25 grams. The total weight is the same as a single gu packet.

What is it made of?

The Upstand is constructed of carbon fiber, a neodymium axial magnet, shock cord, stainless steel, and an epdm rubber foot. We go out of our way to build the best product we can, right here by hand in the US.

How does it stay on?

Embedded in the top of the Upstand’s carbon fiber is a strong 6.5 pull pound axial magnet (rare earth magnet) that keeps it attached to the metal tab when using the Upstand.

Is it hard to perform the initial install?

Not at all! It will take less than 30 seconds actually. Simply slide out the rear skewer, hang the 15 gram tab on the skewer, slide it back in, and tighten. That’s it! Even in the event of a rear flat, the tab will stay there.

What about bolt-ons or thru-axles?

We support both! On the order page for the Upstand are options for “tab size”. Typically bolt-ons require a 10mm tab and thru-axles require a 12mm tab, but double check your setup to make sure you get the right one when ordering.

Customer comments

  • "Love the Upstand. I am working when on long rides, such as the annual MS 170 mile charity ride. When I have to get off to treat an injured rider, I need access to my bag. The Upstand allows me to ride up to the scene and keep the bag accessible and upright."
